Wire rope is available in various constructions, sizes, and finishes. It is mainly manufactured using stainless steel. Wire ropes come in different classifications with 6×19 and 6×37 being the most popular. Wire rope is a versatile material that can be used for many applications, including:  Lifting and hoisting: Attaching wire rope to a crane or hoist and fitting it with swivels, shackles, or hooks to attach to a load and move it in a controlled manner Support: Using wire rope to support suspension bridges or towers Transmission of mechanical power: Using wire rope to transmit force in mechanisms, such as a Bowden cable or the control surfaces of an airplane connected to levers and pedals in the cockpit Separating, positioning, securing, removing, repairing, readjusting, supporting, and bracing: Using wire rope to do these tasks in a safe and effective manner
